St Mary's Church
St Mary's Church holds an annual Remembrance Sunday service which begins in the Church with hymns, reading of the Roll of Honour, sounding of the Last Post and prayers. The service is broadcast by loudspeaker into the Memorial Gardens where between 150 and 200 people gather.
The church congregation then proceed to the Memorial Gardens to join the other members of the community for hymns, laying of the wreaths, sounding of the Last Post, The National Anthem and prayers. |
Roll of Honour
This handwritten Roll of Honour, on display in the Church, contains the same list of 52 names from WW1 as the plaque on the stone cross in the Memorial Gardens.
However the WW2 list contains 4 names fewer than the plaque in the Memorial Gardens. The missing names are C R Knight (who was a late addition to the Memorial Garden list, possibly added around 1960), D S Partridge, F D H Robinson and S W Timson. |
