Lutterworth is an attractive market town situated in the centre of England, close to the intersection of the Fosse Way and Watling Street at High Cross.
Lutterworth has twice made its mark on world history. In the 14th century John Wycliffe, "The Morning Star of the Reformation", was Rector of St Mary's Church in the town and more than five hundred years later, Sir Frank Whittle developed the jet engine at the Ladywood Works off Leicester Road. |
With this strong sense of history evident in the town there is also a strong sense of commitment to ensuring that present day events receive their just recognition.
The Memorial Gardens at the centre of the town are a testament to the endeavours of the current residents that recent sacrifices are properly marked and do not get forgotten. The annual Remembrance Sunday service and laying of the wreaths is always very well attended and the Royal British Legion has a strong and active following in the town. |
This site endeavours to bring together all the information available about Lutterworth War Memorials. We are particularly indebted to Lutterworth Local History Group and their excellent book 'Lutterworth War Memorial Names'. The site is factually correct to the best of our knowledge but we would value any information that proves otherwise as well as any additional information that could be included on the site.
